  • Enamel
    The hardest substance in the body, enamel covers the crown of your tooth, providing protection against biting pressure and decay. However, once fully formed, it cannot regenerate.

  • Dentin
    Located beneath the enamel, dentin makes up the majority of the tooth. It is softer than enamel, making it susceptible to decay if the enamel is compromised. Dentin continues to form throughout your life and can react to damage or decay.

  • Cementum
    This substance covers the root of the tooth, connecting it to the jawbone. Although it is similar in hardness to bone, it can become sensitive if exposed due to gum recession.

  • Pulp
    The innermost part of the tooth, the pulp contains nerves and blood vessels that nourish the tooth. If the pulp is exposed to decay, it can lead to infection and may require root canal therapy.
