Scaling and Root Planing(Deep Cleaning)

Restore your oral health with Root Planing and Scaling…
At Bakery Hill Dental

Root planing and scaling is a deep cleaning below the gumline in order to treat gum disease. This non-surgical procedure prevents gum disease leading to major dental problems and prohibits the need for more costly dental work.

Functions:

Scaling removes the plaque and tartar buildup from above and below the gumline. Root planing smoothes the tooth root and helps the gums reattach to the tooth.

Need for Scaling and Root Planing

  • Stop gum disease: Considered as highly effective in treating gum diseases and improves your gum health.
  • Prevents tooth loss: Infected tooth and gums can lead to decay around the tooth roots and ultimately leads to tooth loss. Root planing and scaling cures these issues before  decay leads to tooth loss.
  • Prevents tooth decay: Root planing and scaling removes build up plaque and tartar thus preventing tooth decay and periodontal pockets.
  • Stronger tooth roots: The procedure protects the roots of your teeth when harmful plaque and bacteria begin to build up below the gum line.
  • Can eliminate bad breath associated with gum disease: Gum disease and other oral health problems like tooth decay can cause chronic bad breath. By treating gum disease, root planing and scaling can help improve bad breath.

What to Expect

The first step is giving local anesthesia to numb the area to make treatment comfortable for you. With scaling and root planing, we can halt and even reverse gum disease. We might prescribe an antibacterial mouth rinse for you to use for several days or weeks to keep the pockets clean. In most cases, the pockets reduce once they are entirely clean and healthy.
Gum diseases are high risk for its recurrence. While most people receive dental cleaning every six months, We would suggest you see Dentist every three months. Procedure needs not be repeated unless you develop deep pockets again, but more frequent regular dental cleanings, along with scrupulous home care, are the keys to ensuring that this does not happen.
Gum disease is progressive, and it can eventually lead to tooth loss. With scaling and root planing, though, we can halt its progression and reverse the damage.
